Sapodilla Bay, Providenciales — Turks and Caicos. Tucked into the southwest corner of Providenciales, Sapodilla Bay is a small, sheltered crescent of soft sand with water so calm and shallow it feels like a swimming pool. On the hill above, sailors and settlers carved their names and dates into the rocks centuries ago, and from the top you can watch the boats come in over the turquoise bay.

  • Best time to visit: Year-round; December to April is the dry season and the calmest time on the water.
  • Average temperature: About 27–31°C / 81–88°F all year, with sea temperatures of 25–29°C.
  • Good to know: The carvings on Sapodilla Hill date from the 1700s and 1800s and include names, dates and ship drawings left by sailors waiting for a ship.
