Placencia — Belize. Placencia is a narrow peninsula in southern Belize with about 16 miles of sand, the Caribbean on one side and a lagoon on the other. The village is relaxed and walkable, and the Belize Barrier Reef and its cayes are a short boat ride offshore.

  • Best time to visit: February to May, in the dry season.
  • Average temperature: About 24–31°C / 75–88°F all year.
  • Good to know: Book a boat day to Laughing Bird Caye National Park for snorkelling on the reef.
