Maya Bay, Koh Phi Phi Leh — Thailand. Maya Bay is enclosed on three sides by sheer limestone cliffs on Koh Phi Phi Leh, with fine white sand and bright turquoise water. After years of closure to let the reef recover, it now welcomes visitors on a managed basis, and blacktip reef sharks have returned to the bay.

  • Best time to visit: November to April, in the dry season.
  • Average temperature: About 25–32°C / 77–90°F.
  • Good to know: Swimming in the bay is not allowed, and it closes for a few months each year for recovery; visit by boat from Phi Phi Don or Phuket.
