Praia de Geribá, Búzios — Brazil. Two and a half hours up the coast from Rio de Janeiro, Búzios is a peninsula of more than twenty beaches that Brigitte Bardot made famous in the 1960s. Geribá is its liveliest stretch: a long arc of golden sand with consistent waves for surfers, beach kiosks serving fresh coconuts, and green hills rolling down to the Atlantic — the place where cariocas come to slow down.

  • Best time to visit: Year-round; December to March is peak summer, while April to June and September to November are quieter and still warm.
  • Average temperature: About 27–30°C / 81–86°F in summer and 22–25°C / 72–77°F in winter.
  • Good to know: A bronze statue of Brigitte Bardot sits on the waterfront promenade, the Orla Bardot, in tribute to the 1964 visit that put Búzios on the map.
