Baía do Sancho, Fernando de Noronha — Brazil. Stop 1 of Naomi and Camila's trip around the world. Baía do Sancho sits inside a protected marine national park on Fernando de Noronha, a volcanic archipelago about 350 km off Brazil's north-east coast. Green cliffs drop straight into a small bay of clear turquoise water, and the only ways down are a steep stairway and ladders through a crack in the rock, or by boat. It is regularly voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

  • Best time to visit: August to January is the drier season, with calm, clear water; March to July brings most of the rain.
  • Average temperature: About 25–30°C / 77–86°F all year, with warm sea water around 26–28°C.
  • Good to know: Visitor numbers are limited. Everyone pays a daily environmental fee for the island, and Sancho also needs a national park ticket.
