Praia do Forno, Arraial do Cabo — Brazil. Known as the "Brazilian Caribbean," Arraial do Cabo sits at the tip of a cape east of Rio de Janeiro, where a cold-water upwelling makes the sea astonishingly clear and turquoise. Praia do Forno is its hidden cove: reached by a short trail or a schooner ride, it has soft white sand, calm green-blue water and colorful fishing boats bobbing beneath forested hills.

  • Best time to visit: Year-round; December to March is high summer and the busiest season, while the cooler months often bring the clearest water.
  • Average temperature: Around 26–30°C / 79–86°F in summer and 21–25°C / 70–77°F in winter; the upwelling keeps the sea refreshingly cool, often 18–22°C.
  • Good to know: The same cold, nutrient-rich current that makes the water so clear has made Arraial do Cabo one of Brazil's best-known diving destinations.
