A day at
Myrtos Beach.
White pebbles, a winding descent, and an afternoon shaped by the sea.

The Ionian coast,
in shades of blue.
Myrtos Beach lies below Divarata on the northwestern coast of Kefalonia, in the Municipality of Sami.
Come for the white-pebble crescent and limestone cliffs. Keep your plan flexible: exposed water and a steep shore can make this a day for looking rather than swimming.

01 / GETTING THERE
Land on Kefalonia.

Divarata is the nearest village above the beach. Keep to the paved access road, park only in permitted spaces, and leave room for emergency vehicles.
On the beach
The shore drops away quickly and the bay is exposed to swell. Follow flags and lifeguard instructions, avoid the cliff bases, and stay ashore when there is rough surf. Beach status ↗
02 / BEACH ESSENTIALS
Know before you go.
A paved descent reaches the shore, but the exposed pebble beach calls for your own supplies and a check of the day’s services.
01 / HOW TO GET THERE
The descent from Divarata
The final stretch winds down a steep hillside. Use the signed road and designated parking; do not stop on blind bends for photographs. Verify any seasonal bus service before leaving town.
KTEL Kefalonia ↗02 / BEACH ACCESS
Paved road, pebble shore
You can reach beach level by road, but loose pebbles and the sloping water entry make a smooth wheelchair or stroller route uncertain. Ask the municipality about current access equipment before traveling.
03 / THE SAND
White pebbles and coarse sand
The pale shore is a mix of pebbles and coarse material beneath limestone cliffs. Bring secure footwear for hot stones and a thick mat for sitting.
04 / FOOD & WATER
Bring your own picnic
Recent reporting describes interruptions to organized beach services. Do not depend on a kiosk, restaurant, refill point, or card terminal on the sand. Shop in town and bring sufficient drinking water.
05 / CHAIRS & UMBRELLAS
Carry shade with you
Do not rely on an operating umbrella or chair concession. Natural shade is limited, and shelter beneath the cliffs creates a rockfall risk. Bring portable shade and secure it safely.
06 / RESTROOMS & SHOWERS
Seasonal facilities
Toilet and shower availability has changed with beach management. Check what is open on arrival and use facilities before the drive down. Lifeguards are seasonal; an empty station is not supervised swimming.

Take in the crescent
Use a safe, permitted viewpoint before descending; keep away from unprotected edges.
02 / WALK
Follow the waterline
Choose stable footing and keep clear of the cliff bases and breaking waves.
03 / SWIM
Let conditions decide
Enter only when conditions and flags permit, and stay within your ability. The water becomes deep quickly.
04 / PAUSE
Make time for shade
Take a break away from the cliff faces and keep your water within reach.
Start by checking the staffed post, flags, surf, and the facilities that are actually open. Walk the shore, swim only if conditions suit you, and keep lunch and water with you. If wind, thunder, or heavy rain changes the day, leave the beach and make a separate town or museum visit.

Change into dry clothing and secure shoes before driving or walking around a village. Keep swimwear covered away from the beach.
In town
Wear a dry shirt with shorts, a skirt, or trousers for dinner; add a light layer when the breeze picks up.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Good to know.
Which airport should I use?
Fly to Kefalonia International Airport (EFL), then arrange a rental car or a taxi to Myrtos via Divarata.
Is Myrtos good for swimming?
Conditions matter more than the color of the water. It deepens quickly and can have strong surf; follow flags and lifeguards and stay out when conditions are rough.
Is the beach step-free?
The road reaches beach level, but the shore is loose pebbles. A continuous firm wheelchair route is not confirmed; ask the municipality about current assistance before visiting.
Can I buy lunch on the sand?
Do not rely on a beach kiosk or concession operating. Bring your own food and enough drinking water.
Can I visit without a car?
A prearranged taxi is an option. Check KTEL’s current beach service and the exact stop before relying on buses; confirm how you will get back.
