A lagoon beneath
Le Morne Brabant.

Le Morne Public Beach sits on the southwest peninsula of Mauritius, where pale sand meets a reef-sheltered lagoon.

Take an early walk along the sand, then see how the wind and flags look before deciding whether to swim. The kite launches are farther along the exposed end of the peninsula.

The shore is close to the road access. Expect soft sand at the end of the approach. Confirm any step-free route before bringing a wheelchair or stroller.

Pale sand beside the reef

Some spots have coral rubble or rock at the waterline. Stay on the sandy route and wear water shoes if you need them.

04 / FOOD & WATER

Bring water and a snack

There are food options on and around the peninsula, but hours and access vary. Bring drinking water and some Mauritian rupees.

05 / CHAIRS & UMBRELLAS

Shade under the trees

Bring a light shade setup if you want to sit in an open stretch. Ask locally about daybeds, which are often tied to a venue.

06 / RESTROOMS & SHOWERS

Use the public facilities

There is a toilet block on the public beach. Ask on arrival about showers, any closure, and the location of a staffed safety post.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Good to know.

Which airport should I use?

Use Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU). Plan a transfer to the southwest peninsula.

Is it good for swimming?

Some sections of the lagoon are sheltered on a calm day. Follow local flags and avoid kite launches, boat lanes, and reef passages.

Is the beach step-free?

The public approach is short, but the end of the route is loose sand. Check your planned entrance locally if you need step-free access.

Can I watch kitesurfers from shore?

Yes. Keep a wide gap from launch areas and kite lines, and follow the posted signs.

Can I walk up Le Morne Brabant?

Check the Heritage Trust Fund for route rules and closures. Conditions on the exposed upper trail can change.
