TOP 100 BIKINI DESTINATIONS / ALGARVE

Start at
the clifftop.

On the Lagoa coast between Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra, Praia da Marinha is a cove of golden sand below layered limestone cliffs, with sea stacks standing off the shore.

See it from above first. Then head down to the sand for a swim and come back up for the clifftop path. You can build a whole day around this stretch of coast.

Get around the Lagoa coast

A car is the easiest way to link Praia da Marinha with Benagil, Carvoeiro and Porches. The beach has its own car park above the cliffs. For buses, check the Vamus Algarve route planner ↗ before you go.

On the beach

In the 2026 bathing season, the national beach register lists lifeguards, a first-aid post, toilets, showers, a beach support facility and parking at Marinha. It is not listed as an accessible beach, and the cliffs are flagged for rockfall risk. Keep away from the base of the cliffs. Beach status on info água ↗

Morning: park above the beachSwim and snorkelWalk east to the algarLunch in Carvoeiro or PorchesSunset on the clifftops

Start early, before the midday heat. After your swim, follow the clifftop path east from the beach to a large algar with an information board about how these sea caves form. Have lunch in Carvoeiro or Porches, then come back for sunset. On a rainy or stormy day, skip the sand and the cliff edges: visit the chapel at Nossa Senhora da Rocha and have a long lunch in Ferragudo instead. Seven Hanging Valleys trail ↗

On the sand

Wear the Algarve Bloom bikini with a light cover-up, hat and sandals. Bring sun protection, water, and a mask and fins for the snorkel trails.

On the clifftops

Wear shoes with grip for the walk down to the beach and for the Seven Hanging Valleys trail. Stay behind the fences and back from the edges.

In town

A linen shirt, easy dress or breathable separates work for dinner in Carvoeiro, Porches or Lagos. Pack a light layer for evenings by the sea.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Good to know.

Which airport should I use?

Faro (FAO) is the Algarve’s airport. From there, rent a car, take a taxi or use the Vamus Aerobus toward Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos.

Is Praia da Marinha good for swimming?

In the bathing season it has lifeguards and a first-aid post. Check the flag, ask the lifeguard about conditions and keep away from the base of the cliffs.

Is the beach step-free?

No. Praia da Marinha is not listed as an accessible beach. Plan for a walk down from the car park.

Can I swim into Benagil Cave?

No. Since August 2024, swimming into the cave and landing on its beach are banned. See it from a boat or on a guided kayak or SUP tour.

Where can I watch the sunset?

Walk out along the clifftops near the beach, or watch from Carvoeiro. Stay on the path and behind the fences.

What language should I use?

Portuguese. A greeting and a few short phrases go a long way.
